The Wyoming women's basketball team will return to the friendly confines of the Arena-Auditorium on Wednesday night as it hosts the Utah State Aggies. The game is scheduled for 7 p.m. MT. in Laramie. The Cowgirls enter this week's match-up with a 7-10 mark and 2-5 in conference action after a six-point loss, 60-54, against the New Mexico Lobos on Saturday afternoon. Senior forward Kayla Woodward finished with a game-high 19 points and 11 rebounds. Junior guard Marquelle Dent also added 17 points, eight assists and six rebounds. Junior guard Jordan Kelley added six points and five rebounds in her effort. The Cowgirls were 21-of-57 (.368) from the field and 6-of-16 (.375) from beyond the arc. Wyoming had 22 points in the paint and 14 second chance points.
Dent leads the way averaging 17.2 points, 5.6 assists and two steals. Woodward follows with a team-high 7.7 rebounds plus 15.9 points. Kelley is adding 6.6 points, 5.9 rebounds and 3.1 assists in her 17 contests this season. As a team, the Cowgirls are shooting 406-of-1018 (.394) from the field and 124-of-365 (.340) from the beyond the arc.
The Aggies are 6-13 overall and 3-4 in league play. Last time out, Utah State defeated the UNLV Lady Rebels, 85-72, on Saturday. Freshman guard Funda Nakkasoglu leads the way with 15.5 points per contest along with 3.2 rebounds. Senior guard Elise Nelson is averaging a team-high 6.2 rebounds while adding 3.5 points. Utah State averages 65.3 points per game compared to 70.7 points for its opponents. This will be the 22nd meeting between the two schools. Wyoming leads the series 14-7. The last time the two teams met was March 4, 2014. The Aggies defeated Wyoming 84-80 in Laramie. Utah State is coached by Jerry Finkbeiner who is in his third season with the program.
