Cowgirl Basketball Looks To Get Fourth Victory In League Play

The Wyoming Cowgirl basketball team will close out the first part of the Mountain West season as they host the TCU Horned Frogs. The game is set for Wednesday, February 1, beginning at 7:00 p.m. Live stats can be followed or audio can be found on www.wyomingathletics.com.

Wyoming is currently 7-12 overall and 3-3 in Mountain West play after a 20-point win, 84-64, over the Boise State Broncos on Saturday. The Cowgirls are led by Chaundra Sewell who is averaging a team high 13.1 points and 8.8 rebounds. Junior Ashley Sickles follows with 12.3 points plus 6.2 rebounds per game, while freshman Kayla Woodward is chipping in 11.3 points and 5.2 rebounds. As a team, they are shooting 405-1022 (.396) from the field and 91-332 (.274) from beyond the arc.

Sickles currently ranks fourth in minutes played, seventh in blocked shots, tenth in rebounding and 11th in scoring. Sewell is among the Top 15 in points, rebounds, assists, blocked shots and field goal percentage. In league games Woodward is second in field goal percentage, fourth in scoring, fifth in steals, seventh in assists, eighth in three-point field goal percentage and minutes played plus ninth in rebounds per game.

TCU is 11-10 overall and 4-2 in the Mountain West. They are coming off a 63-56 win over New Mexico and are currently on a three-game win streak. Natalie Ventress is averaging a team high 12.2 points along with 4.4 rebounds. Antoinette Thompson is adding 9.6 points while Latricia Lovings is averaging a team high 5.6 boards per game. They return three starters and six letterwinners to a team that went 22-11 overall and 13-3 in the MW to earn a spot in the first round of the WNIT.

This is the 19th meeting between the two teams. TCU leads the series 11-7. The last time the two teams met was Feb. 12, 2011 as the Frogs defeated the Cowgirls 65-54 in Ft. Worth. TCU is coached by Jeff Mittie who is in his 13th season with the program.
