For the second week in a row and the fourth time this season, senior forward Hillary Carlson was named Mountain West Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for games played from Jan. 24-30. It's the fifth time in her career she has won the award. She earned the honor with BYU guard Mindy Bonham.
Carlson, a 6-3 senior from Cheyenne, Wyo., scored a career-high 34 points to start the week in a 69-61 win at UNLV on Jan. 26. Carlson scored 13 of the Cowgirls first 27 points and grabbed a season-high 13 rebounds and four blocked shots. Against San Diego State on Jan. 29, Carlson finished with 16 points and seven rebounds as the Cowgirls won their fifth game in a row, 59-51.
For the week, Carlson averaged 25.0 points, 10.0 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game. She shot .500 (17-34) from the field, including .375 (3-8) from three-point range, and .867 (13-15) from the free throw line. She also had an assist at UNLV and a steal against SDSU.
