For the first time in her career, senior Chaundra Sewell was selected to the Capital One Academic All-District VII First Team. In being named to the First Team, she now moves on to the Capital One Academic All-America® Team ballot, which will be chosen on February 21.
Sewell is a three-time Academic All-MW and Scholar Athlete selection, while carrying a gpa of 3.85 in pre-pharmacy. She has started in all 20 games this season and is averaging a team leading 14.6 points and 9.8 rebounds. She ranks among the Top 10 in five categories overall and in league games. Sewell has earned MW Player of the Week honors twice this season, and was named to the Pepperdine Thanksgiving Classic All-Tournament Team. She has led the team in scoring six times and rebounding 14 times, while recording seven double-doubles. With 24 points against Fresno State, she reached 1,000 points for her career and is currently 14th all-time with 1,066. She has also moved into the Cowgirl record book in rebounding, blocked shots, assists, free throws made and attempts.
The Academic All-District ® teams include student-athletes that are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. The University Division team includes NCAA Division I participants, while the College Division team combines NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.
To qualify, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average, must have reached sophomore athletic eligibility and participated in at least 50 percent of her team's games.
