Cowgirl Basketball Begins Second Half Of Conference Play On The Road

The Wyoming Cowgirl basketball team will be on the road to start the second part of Mountain West play as they face the UNLV Lady Rebels. The game is set for Saturday, February 4, beginning at 5:00 p.m. MT. Wyoming is currently 8-12 overall and 4-3 in Mountain West play after a 64-54 victory against TCU on Wednesday night in Laramie. The Cowgirls are led by Chaundra Sewell who is averaging a team high 13.4 points and 9.0 rebounds. Junior Ashley Sickles follows with 11.9 points plus 6.2 rebounds per game, while freshman Kayla Woodward is chipping in 11.8 points and 5.3 rebounds. As a team, they are shooting 424-1072 (.396) from the field and 95-344 (.276) from beyond the arc.

Sickles currently ranks fourth in minutes played, eighth in blocked shots, ninth in rebounding and 12th in scoring. Sewell is among the Top 15 in points, rebounds, assists, blocked shots, field goal percentage, free throw percentage. In league games Woodward is second in field goal percentage, fourth in scoring, sixth in steals, seventh in rebounding, eighth in assists, three point field goals made, free throw percentage and minutes played.

UNLV enters the week 17-6 overall record and 5-2 in the MW. They suffered a 74-62 last time out against Colorado State on Wednesday night. Kelli Thompson leads the way with 12.9 points plus 3.2 rebounds per game. Lenita Sanford is adding 11.3 points and 7.2 rebounds, while Jamie Smith leads the way with 8.3 boards. They return five starters and eight letterwinners to a team that went 11-20 overall and 4-12 in the Mountain West a year ago.

This is the 36th meeting between the two teams. UNLV leads the series 20-15. The last time the two teams met was January 11, 2012 as the Rebels earned a 54-51 victory. UNLV is coached by Kathy Olivier who is in her fourth year with the program.
