The Cowgirl basketball team will play the first of two home games on Wednesday as they host the New Mexico Lobos. The game will tip-off at 7:00 p.m. in the Arena-Auditorium. The Cowgirls are 13-6 overall and 4-4 in MW action after a disappointing five-point loss, 80-75, against Utah State on Saturday night. Kayla Woodward is averaging a team high 17.7 points plus 7.4 rebounds, while Fallon Lewis is adding 14.8 points and a team high 9.7 rebounds. Kaitlyn Mileto follows with 13.8 points and Marquelle Dent leads the way with 4.4 assists plus 8.6 points per game. In league games, Woodward is third in scoring (18.6 ppg) and fourth in rebounding (7.8 rpg). Mileto is currently sixth in scoring with 14.4 points per game, while Lewis leads the league in rebounding with 10.4 per game.
Wyoming is third in the league in scoring offense (73.2 ppg), scoring defense (65.6 ppg) and assists (15.8 aspg). They are also shooting 493-1179 (.418) from the field and 118-360 (.328) from beyond the arc, which are fourth and fifth respectively. In Mountain West games, they are third in scoring offense, fourth in rebounding margin and assists, fifth in scoring defense and three-point field goal percentage.
New Mexico enters the week 8-12 overall and 3-6 in MW play. Last time out, the Lobos defeated the San Jose State Spartans, 76-73, on Saturday. They are led by Antiesha Brown who is averaging a team high 12.8 points plus 3.9 rebounds. Sara Halasz is adding a team high 6.5 rebounds plus 11.2 points per game. They return four starters and seven letterwinners to a team that went 17-14 overall and 8-8 in the MW last year.
This will be 68th meeting between the two schools. UNM leads the series 37-30. The last time the two teams met was Jan. 8, 2014 as the Lobos defeated the Cowgirls 75-65 in Albuquerque. They are coached by Yvonne Sanchez who is in her third season with the program.
