Cowgirl Basketball On the Road Against Rams To Close Out Week

    The Cowgirl basketball team will begin the second part of the Mountain West Conference season on the road this week. They will take on the Colorado State Rams, on Saturday, Feb. 5, in Ft. Collins. The game is set to tip off at 2:00 p.m. Live stats can be followed or audio can be found on www.wyomingathletics.com.

    Wyoming is currently 16-5 overall and 6-2 in conference play after a disappointing 73-48 loss against BYU on Wednesday night. Hillary Carlson leads the team in scoring with 17.8 points per game, while adding 7.3 rebounds. Aubrey Vandiver follows closely with 16.9 points and a team leading 9.1 rebounds per game. The Cowgirls are shooting .430 (490-1139) from the field, 149-422 (.353) from beyond the arc and 254-373 (.681) from the charity stripe.

    Carlson ranks second in scoring and blocked shots, fourth in field goal percentage while being seventh in rebounding in overall games. Vandiver is among the Top 12 in points, rebounds, assists, minutes played and field goal percentage while senior Jade Kennedy is second in minutes played, assist/turnover ratio and sixth in assists. In league games, Carlson is second in scoring and blocked shots, sixth in field goal percentage and rebounding. Vandiver is first in scoring and fourth in rebounding.

    The Rams are currently 12-9 overall and 5-3 in MWC play after a 56-51 win over San Diego State on Wednesday night. They are led by Kim Mestdagh, who is averaging a team leading 16.3 points plus 5.4 rebounds. She is followed by Sam Martin who is adding 12.4 points and 6.3 rebounds. They return four starters and eight letterwinners to a team that went 13-17 overall and 5-11 in the MWC a year ago.

    This is the 84th meeting between the two schools. Wyoming leads the series 42-41. The last time the two teams met was January 5, 2011 as the Cowgirls defeated the Rams, 83-43, in Laramie. Colorado State is coached by Kristen Holt who is in her third season with the program.
