The Wyoming women’s basketball team travels to Logan, Utah to face the Utah State Aggies on Saturday afternoon. Game time is set for a 7 p.m. MT tip at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum. UW is currently 11-10 overall and 4-7 in league play after snapping a four game losing streak on Wednesday with an 84-56 victory over Air Force. Freshman Marta Gomez paced the way for Wyoming with a game-high 19 points in 28 minutes of action. Senior Marquelle Dent recorded 14 points followed by sophomore Liv Roberts with 11. Junior Hailey Ligocki added 10 points, as sophomore Marleah Campbell had 10 points and a team high six rebounds off the bench. The Cowgirls shot a season-high 54.4 percent (31-of-57) from the field while recording 34 points in the paint and 28 points off the bench.
Dent currently leads the team in scoring with 17.2 points, assists and steals. She ranks first in minutes played, second in assists, third in assist/turnover ratio and in scoring in the MW, while in league games she is first in minutes played, second in assists, third in steals and fourth in scoring. UW is shooting 440-of-1108 (.397) from the field and 110-of-368 (.299) from beyond the arc this season. The Cowgirls are also outscoring opponents 63.5-61.5.
Utah State enters the contest 10-11 overall and 5-5 in league play having dropped its last outing 63-58 against Boise State on Wednesday night. The Aggies are led by Funda Nakkasoglu who is averaging a league-leading 21.0 points along with 2.6 boards. Tijana Djukic is the leading rebounding with 6.0 while adding 7.4 points per contest. As a team, Utah State is averaging 68.3 points and 41.0 rebounds. The Aggies return one starter and six letterwinners to a team that went 8-23 overall and 5-13 in MW a season ago.
This is the 24th meeting between the two schools with UW holding the 16-7 advantage in the series and winning the last two. The last time the two teams met was March 3, 2015. The Cowgirls came out on top with a 61-57 victory in Logan. Utah State is coached by Jerry Finkbeiner who is in his fourth season with the program.
