For the first time in her career, senior Kayla Woodward was selected to the Capital One Academic All-District VII First Team. In being named to the First Team, she now moves on to the Capital One Academic All-America® Team ballot, which will be chosen on February 26.
Woodward is a two-time Academic All-Mountain West selection while carrying a 3.43 GPA in elementary education. Currently, she is averaging 15.4 points and a team-leading 7.8 rebounds per contest. She was named the MW preseason Player of the Year for the second year in a row in 2014-15 and to the preseason All-MW team. A First Team All-MW honoree during her junior campaign, Second Team in 2013 and Third Team as a freshman. Last season, Woodward was also picked to the 2014 WBCA Division I Coaches' Honorable Mention All-America team and the WBCA All-Region VII team. During her career, she has earned MW Player of the Week honors five times. Woodward ranks seventh all-time in scoring in school history with 1,629 points and has moved into the Top 20 in eight other categories.
The Academic All-District ® teams include student-athletes that are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. The University Division team includes NCAA Division I participants, while the College Division team combines NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.
To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
