The Cowgirls return home for a match up against the New Mexico Lobos, on Tuesday, Feb. 8. The game is set to tip off at 6:00 p.m. and will be broadcast on The Mountain Sports Network. Wyoming is currently 17-5 overall and 7-2 in conference play after a 74-55 victory over the Colorado State Rams on Saturday afternoon. Hillary Carlson is averaging 17.7 points per game, while adding 7.2 rebounds. Aubrey Vandiver follows closely with 17.7 points and a team leading 9.2 rebounds per game. The Cowgirls are shooting .435 (518-1190) from the field, 158-440 (.359) from beyond the arc and 263-384 (.685) from the charity stripe.
Carlson ranks first in scoring and blocked shots, third in field goal percentage while being seventh in rebounding in overall games. Vandiver is among the Top 12 in points, rebounds, assists, minutes played and field goal percentage while senior Jade Kennedy is second in minutes played, assist/turnover ratio and sixth in assists. In league games, Carlson is second in scoring and blocked shots, sixth in field goal percentage and rebounding. Vandiver is first in scoring and third in rebounding.
The Lobos are currently 8-12 overall and 2-6 in the MWC They are led by Amanda Best who is averaging a team high 10.2 points and seven rebounds. She is followed by Jasmine Patterson who is adding 9.7 points and 2.6 rebounds. They return three starters and ten letterwinners to a team that went 19-13 overall and 9-7 in the MWC a year ago.
This is the 61st meeting between the two schools. New Mexico leads the series 34-26. The last time the two teams met was Jan. 8, 2011 as the Cowgirls defeated the Lobos, 63-53, in Albuquerque. New Mexico is coached by Don Flanagan who is in his 16th year with the program.
