Cowgirls to Host Lady Rebels

The Wyoming Cowgirl basketball team will be at home for their only game of the week as they host the UNLV Lady Rebels, on Saturday, Feb. 10. The game is set to tip off at 2 p.m. in the Arena Auditorium. Also, the University of Wyoming Athletics Department is hosting the seventh annual Take a Kid to the Game carnival in conjunction with the NCAA in the UniWyo Sports Complex. The event starts at noon.

Wyoming is currently 15-6 overall and 6-3 in MWC play after earning a split last week against New Mexico and Utah. They are led by Justyna Podziemska who is averaging 14.1 points and 7.1 rebounds. Junior forward Hanna Zavecz follows with 13.8 points, 3.7 assists and 1.5 steals, while Jodi Bolerjack is adding 10.8 points. The Cowgirls are shooting 475-1114 (.426) from the field, 161-442 (.364) from beyond the arc and 262-342 (.766) from the free throw line.

The Lady Rebels are currently 10-12 overall and 4-6 in MWC play after a 67-54 loss against the San Diego State Aztecs, on Thursday night. They are led by Sequoia Holmes who is averaging 13.4 points and 6.2 rebounds per game. She is followed by Shamela Hampton who is adding 12.8 points and seven boards per contest. They return two starters and seven letterwinners to a team that went 18-12 overall and 9-7 in the Mountain West Conference a year ago. They are coached by Regina Miller who is in her ninth season with the program and her 15th as a head coach.

The Cowgirls and the Lady Rebels have met 24 times previously in this series. UNLV leads the series 17-7 and has won the last six of eight meetings. The last time the two teams met was January 11, 2007 when the Rebels defeated the Cowgirls 51-46 in Las Vegas.

The pre-game carnival runs from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m., and admission is $8 for adults and $5 for children 18 and under. Admission to the carnival also includes a ticket to the game. The first 350 kids will receive free admission to the game and carnival courtesy of Pepsi Kids Day. Tickets can be picked up on first-served basis starting at 8:00 a.m. on the day of the game at the main UW Ticket Office in the Arena Auditorium.
