The Wyoming women's basketball team will seek its third straight victory on Saturday afternoon against the San José State Spartans. The Cowgirls enter Wednesday's contest with an 11-11 mark and 6-6 in conference action after a 74-66 victory against the San Diego State Aztecs on Wednesday night. Senior guard Kaitlyn Mileto recorded a season-high 27 points while shooting 7-of-14 from beyond the arc and 4-of-4 from the charity stripe on the way to her season-high. The seven three-point field goals ties a career-high for the senior. Junior guard Jordan Kelley recorded her fifth double-double of her career with 14 points and a career-high 15 boards. Junior guard Marquelle Dent added 21 points, six steals and five assists. Wyoming shot 24-of-56 (.429) from the field and 17-of-22 (.773) from the free throw line. The Cowgirls outrebounded San Diego State 36-34 and finished with 17 points off turnovers.
Dent leads the way averaging 16.9 points, six assists and 2.2 steals. Woodward follows with a team-high 7.5 rebounds plus 14.9 points. Mileto is averaging 11.9 points while Kelley is adding 7.9 points, 6.8 rebounds and 2.8 assists in her 22 contests this season. As a team, the Cowgirls are shooting 529-of-1303 (.406) from the field, 165-of-465 (.355) from the beyond the arc and 271-388 (.698) from the charity stripe.
San José State is 11-11 overall and 5-6 in conference play. The Spartans didn't play on Wednesday and won in overtime 80-77 against Nevada last Saturday. Senior guard Ta'Rea Cunnigan leads the way with 17.2 points plus 4.2 rebounds, while senior forward Rebecca Woodberry is adding 12.5 points and a team-leading 7.5 rebounds. The Spartans average 79.4 points compared to 78.0 points for their opponents. This will be the sixth meeting between the two schools. Wyoming leads the series 4-1. The last time the two teams met was Jan. 3, 2015 with the Cowgirls coming away with a 96-60 win in Laramie. San José State is coached by Jamie Craighead who is in her second season with the program.
