The Wyoming women’s basketball team will close out the week at home against the league-leading Colorado State Rams on Saturday afternoon. Game time is set for a 2 p.m. MT tip at the Arena-Auditorium. UW is currently 12-12 overall and 5-9 in league play after a 12-point loss, 64-52, on Wednesday night at Fresno State. Freshman Marta Gomez led the way with a team-high 17 points while shooting 5-of-7 from beyond the arc. Senior Marquelle Dent recorded 13 points and seven assists followed by sophomore Natalie Baker with nine points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Wyoming shot 18-of-49 (.367) from the field, 7-of-23 (.304) in the second half while committing 17 team turnovers.
Senior Marquelle Dent currently leads the team in scoring with 16.4 points, assists and steals. She ranks first in minutes played and assists, third in assist/turnover ratio and in scoring in the MW, while in league games she is first in assists, second in minutes played, third in steals and fourth in scoring. Baker leads the Cowgirls in rebounding both overall and in league games with 5.9 and 7.9 per contest, respectively. UW is shooting 544-of-1345 (.404) from the field and 151-of-472 (.321) from beyond the arc this season. The Cowgirls are also outscoring opponents 65.1-62.2.
Colorado State enters the contest riding a 20-game winning streak with an overall record of 23-1 and a perfect 13-0 mark in MW action. Jamie Patrick leads the Rams in scoring averaging 12.9 per contest while Ellen Nystrom is chipping in 10.8 points and 5.2 rebounds per game. Emilie Hesseldal leads the team in rebounding with 6.0 per contest. As a team, CSU is out scoring its opponents 70.7-51.7 and out rebounding competitors 38.6-34.5. The Rams return three starters and seven letterwinners to a team that went 23-8 overall and 15-3 in league play a season ago.
This will be the 96th meeting between the two schools. Wyoming holds a slight 48-47 advantage in the series. The last time the two teams met was Jan. 30, 2016 with the Rams coming out on top with a 63-42 win in Ft. Collins. CSU is coached by Ryun Williams who is in his fourth season with the program.
