Cowgirl Basketball Faces Road Test Against Cougars

The Wyoming Cowgirl basketball team is back on the road to close out their week as they take on the BYU Cougars, on Saturday, February 20. The game is set to tip off at 2 p.m. in Provo and will be broadcast live on BYU TV and later shown on The Mountain Television Network. Check your local listings for the game in your area.

The Cowgirls will enter the game with a 16-8 overall record and a 7-5 mark in conference play after a decisive 23-point win, 78-55, over New Mexico on Wednesday night. Three Cowgirls are scoring in double-figures so far led by junior Hillary Carlson who is averaging a team leading 15.6 points and 2.7 blocks per game. She is followed by fellow junior Aubrey Vandiver with 13.4 points and a team leading 9.8 rebounds per game, while Emma Langford is adding 11.9 points and 3.3 assists.

Carlson is first in blocks, fourth in scoring and 11th in rebounding while being ranked fourth in field goal percentage and fifth in rebounding in the Mountain West Conference. Vandiver ranks among the top-15 in points, rebounds, steals, field goal percentage, three-point field goal percentage and minutes played while Langford is 11th in assists and 14th in scoring.

BYU comes into the week with a 17-6 record overall and a 8-3 mark in conference play after a 72-54 win over Colorado State on Wednesday night. They are led by Mindy Bonham who is averaging 11.4 points and four rebounds. She is followed by Coriann Wood with 10.2 points and a team leading 5.4 rebounds.

They welcome back three starters and 12 letterwinners to a team that went 18-11 and 8-8 in the MWC a year ago. This is the 68th meeting between the two teams. BYU leads the series 46-21. The last time the two teams met was January 19, 2010 as the Cowgirls defeated BYU, 69-54, in Laramie. BYU is coached by Jeff Judkins who is in his ninth season with the program.
