Carrie Bacon Named Second Team Academic All-District VII

For the second time in her career,Carrie Bacon, a junior on the University of Wyoming Women's BasketballTeam, was selected on Thursday as a Second Team Verizon AcademicAll-District VII honoree. Bacon, who has earned a 3.887 cumulativegrade-point average in exercise and sport science, was one of only 10individuals to earn First or Second Team honors. Only First Teamhonorees are eligible for the national ballot, which will be announcedlater this spring.

The Verizon Academic All-District and Academic All-America Teams aresponsored by Verizon Wireless. Student-athletes are selected in votingby the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). CoSIDADistrict VII is made up of the states of Wyoming, Colorado, Iowa,Kansas, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota andthe Canadian provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan.

To qualify, a student-athlete must have achieved a minimum of 3.20cumulative grade-point average, must be at least a sophomore and musthave participated in at least 50 percent of her team's games.

Bacon is also an Academic All-Conference and Scholar-Athlete selectionand earned GTE Academic All-District VII honors in 1999-2000. As asophomore, Bacon was named First Team All-Conference for the MountainWest Conference, along with earning Second Team All-Conference honorsand selections to the All-Newcomer team for the Western AthleticConference as a freshman.

She currently leads the Cowgirls in scoring (13.7 points per game),blocks (.42 bpg), steals (1.5 spg) and field goals (5.2 fgpg). TheCowgirls are currently 12-12, 4-7 in the Mountain West Conference. Shealso ranks eighth in scoring and ninth in rebounding in the MountainWest Conference.
