Cowgirl Basketball Set To Play TCU, Colorado State

LARAMIE, Wyo. -

The Wyoming Cowgirl basketball team will play two games in Mountain West Conference action this week. They will be on the road for a match up against the TCU Lady Frogs, on Thursday, Feb. 22 and then host the Colorado State Rams, on Sunday, Feb. 25. The TCU game is set for a 6 p.m. Mountain Time tip off while the CSU game is set to begin at 3 p.m. and will be broadcast on the Mtn. Sports Network.

Wyoming is currently 16-8 overall and 7-5 in MWC play after being swept by BYU and San Diego State last weekend. They are led by Justyna Podziemska who is averaging 13.7 points and 6.7 rebounds, and junior forward Hanna Zavecz with 13.7 points, 3.7 assists and 1.5 steals. Junior Jodi Bolerjack is adding 11 points. The Cowgirls are shooting 534-1274 (.419) from the field, 178-504 (.353) from beyond the arc and 321-418 (.768) from the free throw line.

The Lady Frogs are currently 19-7 overall and 9-3 in the Mountain West Conference. They are led by Adrianne Ross who is averaging 17.4 points and 3.3 rebounds per game. She is followed by Ashley Davis who is adding 15.5 points and 4.5 rebounds a contest. They return four starters and ten letterwinners to a team that went 19-12 overall, 11-5 in the Mountain West Conference, while advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Cowgirls and the Lady Frogs have met nine times previously in this series. TCU leads the series 5-4. The last time the two teams met was January 20, 2007 as the Cowgirls defeated the Lady Frogs, 66-51, in Laramie. They are coached by Jeff Mittie who is in his eighth season with the program.

The Rams, who are currently 7-18 overall and 2-11 in the MWC, will play San Diego State on Thursday night before facing the Cowgirls. They are led by Sara Hunter who is averaging 12.4 points and 4.3 rebounds. She is followed by Juanise Cornell who is adding 8.1 points and 6.8 rebounds. Marilyn Moulton is the leading rebounder for the Rams with 7.9 per game. They return two starters and four letterwinners to a team that went 9-20 overall and 2-14 in the MWC a year ago. The Cowgirls and the Rams have met 74 times previously in this series. CSU leads the series 40-34. The last time the two teams met was January 25, 2007. Wyoming came away with the 78-66 victory in overtime. They are coached by Jen Warden who is in her second season with the program and her fifth as a head coach.
