The Wyoming Cowgirl Basketball team will close out their weekend against the UNLV Lady Rebels, on Saturday, February 23, in Las Vegas. The game time is set for 8:00 p.m. MT.
Wyoming is currently 21-4 overall and 9-3 in conference play after a 55-44 victory over the San Diego State Aztecs on Wednesday night in San Diego. Senior Hanna Zavecz leads the way for UW with 13.2 points and 3.6 assists. She is followed by fellow senior Justyna Podziemska who is adding 12.5 points and 5.8 rebounds, while Aubrey Vandiver is chipping in 11.1 points and a team leading 6.2 rebounds per game. The Cowgirls are leading the MWC in scoring defense allowing just 52.0 points per contest and blocked shots (5.4 bpg). They are also shooting .411 (539-1312) from the field, .324 (168-519) from beyond the arc and .711 (344-484) from the free throw line.
UNLV is currently 8-16 overall and 4-7 in the Mountain West Conference. UNLV is led by Sequoia Holmes, who is averaging a league leading 18.8 points, along with 7.1 rebounds. She is followed by Shamela Hampton with 11.1 points and seven rebounds and Dominique Harris with 7.5 points off the bench. They return four starters and six letterwinners to a team that went 14-15 overall and 8-8 in the MWC a year ago. This is the 27th meeting between the two schools. UNLV leads the series 17-9. The last time the two teams met was January 23, 2008 as the Cowgirls defeated the Lady Rebels 87-39 in Laramie. UNLV is coached by Regina Miller who is in her tenth season with the program.
