Cowgirl Basketball Faces Tough Road Challenge Against Falcons

    The Wyoming Cowgirl basketball team returns to the court after a week break as they travel to Colorado Springs. They will face the Air Force Academy Falcons, on Wednesday, Feb. 23. The game is set to tip off at 7:00 p.m. at Clune Arena. Live stats can be followed or audio can be found on www.wyomingathletics.com.

    Wyoming is currently 19-6 overall and 9-3 in conference play. They earned a 59-50 victory over Utah last time out. Aubrey Vandiver is averaging a team leading 18.2 points and 9.1 rebounds, while Hillary Carlson is adding 17.0 points and 7.2 boards per contest. The Cowgirls are shooting .436 (580-1330) from the field, 185-503 (.368) from beyond the arc and 303-434 (.698) from the charity stripe.

    Vandiver is among the Top 15 in points, rebounds, assists, minutes played, field goal and three-point percentage. Carlson ranks second in blocked shots, third in scoring, fourth in field goal percentage and ninth in rebounding in overall games. Senior Jade Kennedy is first in minutes played, second in assist/turnover ratio and eighth in assists. In league games, Carlson is second in scoring, third in blocked shots, fifth in field goal percentage and eighth in rebounding. Vandiver is first in scoring, third in rebounding and minutes played plus eighth in field goal percentage.

    The Falcons are currently 8-17 overall and 3-9 in the MWC after a 68-50 loss against San Diego State on Saturday. They are led by Raimee Beck who is averaging a team leading 11.6 points while adding 4.8 rebounds per game. She is followed by Dymond James who is adding 10.8 points and a team leading 7.1 rebounds. They return two starters and ten letterwinners to a team that went 3-27 overall and 0-16 in the MWC last year.

    This is the 39th meeting between the two schools. Wyoming leads the series 36-2. The last time the two teams was January 22, 2011 as the Cowgirls defeated the Falcons, 96-54, in Laramie. Air Force is coached by Andrea Williams who is in her first season with the program.
