The Wyoming women’s basketball team is back on the road on Wednesday against the San Diego State Aztecs. Game time is set for a 7:30 p.m. MT tip at Viejas Arena. Live stats, video and audio can be found on the women’s basketball Gameday Central page located on the GoWyo.com website.
UW is currently 12-13 overall and 5-10 in league play after a five-point loss, 62-57, against Colorado State on Saturday. Four Cowgirls finished the night in double-digits led by sophomore Liv Roberts. She recorded 14 points and a game-high eight rebounds for Wyoming. Senior Marquelle Dent and junior Hailey Ligocki each chipped in 13 points while sophomore Natalie Baker added 12 points and seven rebounds. The Cowgirls shot 19-of-56 (.339) from the field, 14-of-17 (.824) from the free throw line and out rebounded CSU, 37-32.
Dent currently leads the team in scoring with 16.2 points, assists and steals. She ranks first in minutes played and assists, third in assist/turnover ratio and in scoring in the MW, while in league games she is first in assists, second in minutes played, fourth in steals and in scoring. Baker leads the Cowgirls in rebounding both overall and in league games with 6.0 and 7.9 per contest, respectively. UW is shooting 563-of-1401 (.402) from the field and 156-of-487 (.320) from beyond the arc this season. The Cowgirls are also outscoring opponents 64.8-62.2.
SDSU is currently 10-15 overall, 5-9 in MW play and riding a four-game winning streak. The Aztecs are led by sophomore guard McKynzie Fort with 14.8 points plus 4.2 rebounds. Senior guard Ahjalee Harvey is adding 9.4 points while senior forward Deidra Smith leads the way in rebounding with 4.6. As a team, the Aztecs are averaging 59.5 points and 33.6 rebounds per contest. San Diego State returns three starters and seven letterwinners to a team that went 12-19 overall and 8-10 in the league a season ago.
This is the 42nd meeting between the two schools. UW holds a slight edge 26-25. The last time the two teams met was Dec. 30, 2015 with the San Diego State coming away with an 84-77 victory in Laramie. The Aztecs are coached by Stacie Terry who is in her third season with the program.
