Cowgirl Basketball Hosts UNLV in Home Finale

The Wyoming women's basketball team will host its regular season finale on Saturday against the UNLV Lady Rebels. Game time is set for a 2:00 p.m. MT tip at the Arena-Auditorium. It will be the final home game for seniors Marquelle Dent and Jordan Kelley who will be honored prior to the contest.

UW is currently 12-14 overall and 5-11 in league play after a 53-40 loss against San Diego State on Wednesday night. Sophomore Natalie Baker led the way with ten points and three blocked shots. Senior Marquelle Dent added nine points and four assists followed by junior Hailey Ligocki with eight points. Sophomore Liv Roberts brought down a team-high seven rebounds. The Cowgirls shot 14-of-53 (.264) from the field and 4-of-20 (.200) from beyond the arc.

Dent currently leads the team in scoring with 16.0 points, assists and steals. She ranks first in minutes played and assists, third in assist/turnover ratio and in scoring in the MW, while in league games she is second in assists and minutes played, fourth in steals and in scoring. Baker leads the Cowgirls in rebounding both overall and in league games with 5.9 and 7.6 per contest, respectively. UW is shooting 577-of-1454 (.397) from the field and 160-of-507 (.316) from beyond the arc this season. The Cowgirls are also outscoring opponents 63.8-61.8.

UNLV is currently 15-12 overall and 8-8 in MW play. Last time out, the Lady Rebels defeated Boise State 78-68. Three players are averaging double-figures including Dakota Gonzalez who is averaging 14 points and 4.7 rebounds. She is followed by Brooke Johnson with 13.5 points, while Nikki Wheatley chips in 10.3 points and 6.3 boards. Aley Rohde leads the way with 7.9 rebounds and 8.6 points. As a team, UNLV is averaging 61.3 points and 44.3 rebounds. The Lady Rebels return three starters and four letterwinnners to a team that went 13-17 overall and 10-8 in the league a season ago.

This is the 43rd meeting between the two schools with UNLV holding a 22-20 advantage in the series. The last time the two teams met was January 9, 2016. UNLV came out on top with a 66-37 victory. The Lady Rebels are coached by Kathy Olivier who is in her eighth season with the program.
