Final Two MWC Regular Season Games Upcoming for Cowgirl Basketball

LARAMIE, Wyo. -

The Wyoming Cowgirl basketball team will close out regular season conference play this week. They will host the Air Force Academy Falcons, on Wednesday, Feb. 28, and then finish up against the Utah Utes, on Saturday, March 3 in Salt Lake City. The Air Force game is set for a 7 p.m. tip off while the Utah game is set to begin at 3 p.m.

Wyoming is currently 18-8 overall and 9-5 in MWC play after earning wins over Colorado State and TCU last week. They are led by Hanna Zavecz who is averaging a team leading 13.2 points along with 4.6 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game. Junior forward Justyna Podziemska follows with 13.0 points and 6.5 rebounds, while Jodi Bolerjack is adding 11.4 points. The Cowgirls are shooting 577-1371 (.421) from the field, 184-529 (.348) from beyond the arc and 362-471 (.769) from the free throw line.

The Falcons are currently 5-21 overall and 1-14 in the Mountain West Conference. They are led by Alecia Steele who is averaging 12.1 points and 7.9 rebounds. She is followed by Pamela Findlay who is adding 8.9 points and five rebounds a contest. They return four starters and 13 letterwinners to a team that went 13-15 overall and 4-12 in the MWC a year ago. The Cowgirls and the Falcons have met 30 times previously in this series. Wyoming leads the series 28-2. The last time the two teams met was January 27, 2007 in Colorado Springs. Wyoming won the game by a final of 64-43. They are coached by Ardie McInelly who is in her sixth season with the program.

The Utes are currently 17-10 overall and 10-4 in the Mountain West Conference and will play BYU on Wednesday before facing the Cowgirls. They are led by Morgan Warburton who is averaging 16.1 points and 4.7 rebounds per game. She is followed by Kalee Whipple who is adding 10.2 points and 6.6 boards a contest. They return two starters and eight letterwinners to a team that went 27-7 overall, 12-4 in the MWC, while making it to the Elite Eight a year ago. The Cowgirls and the Utes have met 60 times previously in this series. Utah leads the series 53-7. The last time the two teams met was February 1, 2007 in Laramie. The Cowgirls snapped a 30-game losing streak to the Utes as they earned a 56-55 victory. Utah is coached by Elaine Elliott who is in her 24th season with the program.
