The Wyoming women's basketball team will play their final conference home game on Saturday, March 2, against the New Mexico Lobos. The game is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. in the Arena-Auditorium. The Cowgirls are currently 21-6 overall and 10-4 in MW play after an 88-63 win over the Air Force Falcons on Wednesday night. Four of five starters are averaging double-figures led by Chaundra Sewell. She is averaging 14.9 points and a league leading 9.5 rebounds. Kayla Woodward follows closely with 14.3 points and 6.2 rebounds while Kaitlyn Mileto is adding 12.7 points. Senior Ashley Sickles is chipping in 11.1 points and 5.4 boards as well.
Wyoming is first in the league in scoring offense (71.2 ppg), rebounding margin (+7.0) and assists (16.0 aspg). They are also shooting 695-1533 (.453) from the field and 175-460 (.377) from beyond the arc. Both rank first in the league. In Mountain West games, they are first in scoring offense, assists and field goal percentage, second in free throw percentage and rebounding margin.
The Lobos are currently 14-12 overall and 6-7 in the MW after a 72-44 loss against San Diego State on Wednesday. They are led by Caroline Durbin who is averaging 11.9 points and 4.1 rebounds. Deeva Vaughn follows with 9.5 points and a team high 5.3 boards. They return three starters and eight letterwinners to a team that went 11-20 overall and 3-11 in the MW a year ago.
This will be the 66th meeting between the two schools. New Mexico leads the series 36-29. The last time the two teams met was January 30, 2013 as the Cowgirls defeated the Lobos, 72-54, in Albuquerque. New Mexico is coached by Yvonne Sanchez who is in her second year at the helm.
