Wyoming's Bacon Chosen MWC Women's Basketball Player of the Week

LARAMIE, Wyo. - University of Wyoming sophomore forward Carrie Bacon is the Mountain West Conference Women?s Basketball Player of the Week after leading her team to its second roadconference win of the season and a split in games this past week. Wyoming opened the week with an 88-52 loss at New Mexico on Thursday, but recovered to post a 62-48 win at Air Force. The victory moved the Cowgirls into a tie for sixth-place in the league standings entering the final week of the regular season. Wyoming is now 9-16 overall and 3-9 in league play.

Bacon scored in double figures in both games and leads the conference with 23 double-digit scoring games this season. She also notched her 10th double-figure rebounding game and eighth double-double of the season. Bacon is the second leading scoring in the conference with a 17.1 average and stands third in rebounding with an 8.1 average. In just her second season, Bacon has already totaled 808 career points and 370 career rebounds.

In Saturday?s win at Air Force, Bacon led all scorers with 16 points and registered a double-double with 11 rebounds. She also provided six assists, two steals and a blocked shot in the win. Despite the loss to New Mexico on Thursday, Bacon led all scorers with 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds. She also made three steals in the game.

For the week, Bacon totaled 31 points, 19 rebounds, six assist, five steals and a block for averages of 15.5 points and 9.5 rebounds, playing 35 minutes in each of the two games as a starter. Bacon shot .619 (13-for-23) from the field and .833 (5-for-6) from the free throw line during the week.

A product of Harrison High School, in Colorado Springs, Colo., Bacon is the second Wyoming player to earn the conference player of the week honor this season. It is the first such honor in her career.
