The Wyoming Cowgirl Basketball team will be on the road in a key match up against the Mountain West Conference leading Utah Utes, on Sunday, March 2. The game is set to start at 3:00 p.m. and will be broadcast on The Mtn. Sports Network, which is channel 412 in Laramie.
Wyoming is currently 23-4 overall and 11-3 in conference play after a 68-46 victory over the Colorado State Rams on Wednesday night. The Cowgirls are ranked 24th in the Associated Press Poll and 25th in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches' Poll. Senior Hanna Zavecz leads the way for UW with 13.6 points and 3.6 assists. She is followed by fellow senior Justyna Podziemska who is adding 13.1 points and 5.8 rebounds, while Aubrey Vandiver is chipping in 11.7 points and a team leading 5.9 rebounds per game. The Cowgirls are leading the MWC in scoring defense allowing just 52.8 points per contest and blocked shots (5.3 bpg). They are shooting .419 (594-1418) from the field, .338 (188-557) from beyond the arc and .707 (370-523) from the free throw line.
Utah is currently 24-3 overall and 13-0 in the MWC after a 68-53 victory over TCU on Wednesday night. They are ranked 15th in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches' Poll and 16th in the Associated Press Poll. The Utes are led by Morgan Warburton who is averaging 17.5 points and 5.6 rebounds. She is followed by Leilani Mitchell who is adding 16.6 points and 3.9 rebounds. They return three starters and seven letterwinners to a team that went 19-14 overall and 10-6 in the MWC a year ago. This is the 63rd meeting between the two schools. Utah leads the series 54-8. The last time the two teams met was January 30, 2008 as the Utes defeated the Cowgirls, 60-59, in Laramie. Utah is coached by Elaine Elliott who is in her 25th season with the program.
