Wyoming Basketball Plays Final Conference Road Game

The Wyoming Cowgirl basketball team will play their final conference road game as they take on the San Diego State Aztecs, on Wednesday, March 2. The game time is set for 8:00 p.m. Mountain Time at Viejas Arena. Live audio can be found on www.wyomingathletics.com.

Wyoming is currently 21-6 overall and 11-3 in conference play. They earned a 77-56 victory over UNLV on Saturday afternoon in Laramie. Aubrey Vandiver is averaging a team leading 18.3 points and 9.1 rebounds, while Hillary Carlson is adding 17.1 points and 7.2 boards per contest. The Cowgirls are shooting a league leading .441 (635-1441) from the field and 204-549 (.372) from beyond the arc, plus 332-470 (.706) from the charity stripe.

Vandiver is among the Top 15 in points, rebounds, assists, steals, minutes played and field goal percentage. Carlson ranks second in blocked shots, third in scoring, fourth in field goal percentage and ninth in rebounding in overall games. Senior Jade Kennedy is first in minutes played, second in assist/turnover ratio and seventh in assists. In league games, Carlson is second in blocked shots, fourth in scoring, fifth in field goal percentage and eighth in rebounding. Vandiver is first in scoring, third in minutes played and rebounding plus eighth in field goal percentage.

The Aztecs are currently 12-14 overall and 6-8 in the MWC after a 56-52 loss the last time out against BYU. They are led by Pairs Johnson who is averaging a team high 14.6 points and 7.7 rebounds. She is followed by Courtney Clements who is adding 12.1 points, while Jessika Bradley leads the way with eight rebounds per game. They return three starters and six letterwinners to a team that went 23-11 overall and 10-6 in the MWC last year.

This is the 42nd meeting between the two schools. Wyoming leads the series 23-18. The last time the two teams met was January 29, 2011 as the Cowgirls defeated San Diego State, 59-51, in Laramie. SDSU is coached by Beth Burns who is in her 14th season with the program.
