The Wyoming Cowgirl basketball team will play their final conference road game this week as they travel to Colorado Springs. They will take on the Air Force Falcons, on Wednesday, March 3. The tip is scheduled for 7 p.m.
The Cowgirls will enter the game with a 16-10 overall record and a 7-7 mark in conference play after a tough 52-48 loss against Utah last Sunday. Three Cowgirls are scoring in double-figures so far led by junior Hillary Carlson who is averaging a team leading 15.2 points and 2.7 blocks per game. She is followed by fellow junior Aubrey Vandiver with 13.4 points and a team leading 9.9 rebounds per game, while Emma Langford is adding 11.9 points and 3.1 assists.
Carlson is first in blocks, fourth in scoring and 12th in rebounding while being ranked fourth in field goal percentage and fifth in free throw percentage in the Mountain West Conference. Vandiver ranks among the Top 15 in points, rebounds, steals, three-point field goal percentage and minutes played while Langford is 11th in assists and 13th in scoring.
Air Force comes into the week with a 3-24 record overall and a 0-14 mark in conference play after a 69-55 loss against UNLV on Saturday. They are led by Raimee Beck who is averaging a team leading 13.6 points and 6.6 rebounds. She is followed by Kelsey Berger with 7.6 points and 3.4 boards per game.
They welcome back three starters and six letterwinners to a team that went 4-26 overall and 0-16 in the MWC a year ago. This is the 37th meeting between the two teams. Wyoming leads the series 34-2. The last time the two teams met was January 30, 2010 as the Cowgirls defeated the Falcons, 98-37, in Laramie. Air Force is coached by Ardie McInelly who is in her ninth season with the program.
