The Wyoming Cowgirl Basketball team will close out the regular conference season on the road this week. They will open up against the BYU Cougars, on Wednesday, March 4, in Provo. The game is set to begin at 7:05 p.m. and will be broadcast on BYU-TV (Channel 232 on cable).

The Cowgirls will enter this game with a 15-12 overall record and 7-7 in Mountain West Conference play after sweeping Air Force and Colorado State last week. Senior Megan McGuffey led the way with a season high 24 points along with nine rebounds, while Kristen Scheffler finished with a career high 22 points.

Four Cowgirls are scoring in double-figures this season led by sophomore Hillary Carlson who is averaging 11.7 points, while freshman guard Kristen Scheffler is adding 10.8 points per game. Senior Megan McGuffey and forward Emma Langford follow closely with 10.8 and 10.1 points respectively. McGuffey leads the team with 6.6 rebounds per contest.

Carlson ranks fourth in the league in field goal percentage and tenth in scoring, while Scheffler leads the league in three-point field goals made (2.52 tpfgm) and 16th in scoring. McGuffey ranks eight in rebounding and 17th in scoring.

In conference games, Carlson is third in scoring (15.2 ppg), fourth in field goal percentage (71-143, .497) and eighth in rebounding. Scheffler is second in three-point field goals made, fourth in minutes played, while being 13th in scoring (11.3 ppg).

BYU comes into the weekend with a 17-9 overall record and a 7-7 mark in the MWC this season. Mindy Nielson leads the way with 10.7 points and 3.8 rebounds, while Shawnee Slade is adding 9.5 points and four rebounds. They return two starters and 12 letterwinners to a team that went 13-16 overall and 7-9 in the MWC a year ago. This is the 66th meeting between the two teams. BYU leads the series 46-19. The last time the two teams met was January 31, 2009 as the Cougars defeated Wyoming, 58-45, in Laramie. The Cougars are coached by Jeff Judkins who is in his eighth season overall.
