Cowgirl Basketball Set to Battle Air Force in First Round of 2015 MW Championships

The Wyoming women's basketball team will face the Air Force Falcons in the first round of the Mountain West Tournament on Monday. The Cowgirls enter Monday's contest as the sixth seed with a 15-13 mark overall while finishing tied for fifth with a 10-8 record in league play. Last time out, Wyoming suffered a disappointing 66-55 loss against New Mexico on Friday night. Junior Marquelle Dent leads the way averaging 17.3 points, 6.2 assists and 2.2 steals. Senior Kayla Woodward follows with a team-high 7.6 rebounds plus 15.6 points. Senior Kaitlyn Mileto is averaging 11.9 points while junior Jordan Kelley is adding 7.8 points and seven rebounds. In league games, Dent finished first in steals, assists and minutes played along with four in scoring. Woodward was fourth in rebounding and sixth in scoring while Kelley was second in rebounding and assist/turnover ratio.

As a team, the Cowgirls are shooting 679-of-1640 (.414) from the field, 209-of-572 (.373) from the beyond the arc and 340-of-489 (.695) from the charity stripe. They rank first in three-point field goal percentage, third in scoring defense, field goal and free throw percentage and fourth in scoring offense and assists. In league games, they are first in field goal and three-point field goal percentage, fourth in scoring offense and assists.

Air Force is 2-27 overall, finished 1-17 in league play and enters the tournament as the 11th seed. Last time out, the Falcons lost to the Fresno State Bulldogs, 61-41. Senior guard Jimi Blagowsky leads the way with a team-high 13.2 points plus three rebounds, while senior guard Lindsey Lewis is adding 11.2 points and 3.7 rebounds. The Falcons average 54.0 points compared to 77.6 points for their opponents, while getting outrebouded 47.7-32.5.

This will be the 47th meeting between the two schools. Wyoming leads the series 44-2. The last time the two teams met was February 7, 2015. The Cowgirls earned a 74-51 victory in Laramie. Air Force is coached by Andrea Williams who is in her fifth season with the program.
