For the second straight year, the Wyoming basketball team will play in the semifinals of the Reese's Mountain West Basketball Championships. They will take on the second seeded Fresno State Bulldogs, on Friday, March 15, at 3:30 p.m. MT. Live stats can be followed or audio can be found on www.gowyo.com.
The Cowgirls are currently 24-6 overall and 12-4 in MW play after pulling out an exciting 60-58 win in the first round. Four of five starters are averaging double-figures led by Chaundra Sewell. She is averaging 14.8 points and a league leading 9.8 rebounds. Kayla Woodward follows closely with 14.2 points and 6.3 rebounds while Kaitlyn Mileto is adding 12.4 points. Senior Ashley Sickles is chipping in 11.2 points and 5.4 boards as well.
Wyoming is first in the league in scoring offense (70.7 ppg), rebounding margin (+8.1) and assists (16.0 aspg). They are also shooting 765-1709 (.448) from the field and 194-514 (.377) from beyond the arc. Both rank first in the league. In Mountain West games, they were first in scoring offense, assists and field goal percentage, second in free throw percentage and rebounding margin.
The Bulldogs enter the contest with a 22-8 overall record and 13-3 in the MW. They come in as the two seed and defeated Boise State 72-55 in the quarterfinals. They are led by Ki-Ki Moore who is averaging a team high 16.8 points and 6.2 rebounds. Rosie Moult follows with 12.9 points and 4.9 boards. They return four starters and seven letterwinners to a team that went 28-6 overall, 13-1 in the WAC and made it to the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
This will be the 19th meeting between the two schools. The series is tied 9-9. The two teams split the season series as FSU defeated the Cowgirls 61-47 on Feb. 16, 2013 in Fresno, while Wyoming defeated Fresno State, 78-71, in Laramie. The Bulldogs are coached by Raegen Pebley who is in her first season with the program.
