Cowgirl Basketball Moves Into Second Round of WNIT Play Against Oklahoma State

    The Wyoming Cowgirl basketball team will continue their run in the 2011 Women's National Invitational Tournament (WNIT) on Monday, March 21, at 7:00 p.m. in the Arena Auditorium.

    The Second Round WNIT game, presented by Laramie GM Auto Center, will match the Cowgirls against the Oklahoma State Cowgirls who are 17-14 overall after an 81-74 win over Pepperdine Wednesday night.

    Wyoming is currently 23-8 overall after a 79-44 First Round win over the Portland State Vikings. Aubrey Vandiver is averaging a team leading 18.8 points and 9.2 rebounds, while Hillary Carlson is adding 17.0 points and 7.2 boards per contest. The Cowgirls are shooting a league leading .432 (724-1674) from the field, plus 221-630 (.351) from beyond the arc and 393-560 (.702) from the charity stripe.

    Vandiver is among the Top 15 in points, rebounds, assists, steals, minutes played and field goal percentage. Carlson ranks second in blocked shots, fourth in scoring and field goal percentage and ninth in rebounding in overall games. Senior Jade Kennedy is second in minutes played and assist/turnover ratio and ninth in assists.

    Oklahoma State is currently 17-14 overall and finished 4-12 in the Big 12 Conference. They are led by Toni Young who is averaging a team high 15.5 points and 9.1 rebounds. She is followed by Vicky McIntyre with 11 points and 5.5 rebounds, while Tiffany Bias is adding 9.5 points per contest. They welcome back two starters and six letterwinners to a team that went 24-11 overall and 9-7 in the Big 12 Conference a year ago.

    This is the third meeting between the two teams. Oklahoma State leads the series 2-0. The last time the two teams met was January 7, 1990. OSU defeated Wyoming 79-59. The Cowgirls are coached by Kurt Budke who is in his sixth season with the program.

    Tickets to Monday's game are on sale on-line now at WyomingAthletics.com and through the University of Wyoming Athletics Ticket Office. Ticket prices are $13 for adults, $7 for children and $5 for UW students. Ticket Office hours are 8:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. today, 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. on Saturday, then will open at 8:00 a.m. on Monday.

    Cowgirl Basketball season-ticket holders who wish to reserve their regular-season seats must either call the UW Athletics Ticket Office or drop by the ticket office prior to noon on the day of the game.     The Cowboy Joe Club & UW Athletic Department invites fans to the official WNIT Pregame Hospitality prior to the Cowgirls' Second Round WNIT game on Monday from (5:30-7:00 p.m.), in the Paul & Marge Roach Hall at War Memorial Lobby on the south end of War Memorial Fieldhouse. The pregame hospitality is open to the public. Cost for the pregame function will be: FREE for Gold Card Cowboy Joe Club members, $5 for Brown Card Cowboy Joe Club members and $10 for the general public. A light meal will be served and complimentary pop or bottled water will be offered. A cash bar will also be available with costs of $3 for beer.
