Cowgirl Basketball to Host Wisconsin in WNIT Championship Game

The Wyoming Cowgirl basketball team will play host to the championship game of the 2007 Women's National Invitational Tournament (WNIT) on Saturday, March 31, at 1:00 p.m. in the Arena Auditorium. The game, which is sold out, can be seen live in Wyoming on Fox Sports Rocky Mountain.

The WNIT game will match the Cowgirls against the Wisconsin Badgers who are currently 23-12 overall. They have wins over Arkansas State, 77-45, Kentucky, 67-61, Virginia, 84-78, and Western Kentucky, 79-72, on their way through the WNIT.

The Cowgirls enter this week's competition with a regular season record of 26-9 overall after earning WNIT wins over the Nevada Wolf Pack, 84-56, Missouri Tigers, 73-67, Oregon Ducks, 64-62, South Dakota State Jackrabbits, 70-59 and Kansas State Wildcats, 89-79, in triple overtime. They are led by Hanna Zavecz who averaging 14 points, 3.9 assists and 1.7 steals per game. Junior Justyna Podziemska follows adding 13 points and a team leading 6.4 rebounds, while Jodi Bolerjack is chipping in 11.5 points. The Cowgirls are shooting 770-1827 (.421) from the field, 248-685 (.362) from beyond the arc and 527-703 (.750) from the free throw line.

The Badgers are led by Jolene Anderson who is averaging 19.8 points and seven rebounds per game. She is followed by Janese Banks who is adding 14.7 points and 6.2 rebounds. They return three starters and five letterwinners to a team that went 11-18 overall and 5-11 in the Big 10 a year ago. This is the first meeting ever between the two schools. They are coached by Lisa Stone who is in her fourth season with program.

The Cowboy Joe Club is once again hosting a pre-game reception from 11:00-12:30 p.m. in the UniWyo Sports Complex and all fans are invited to attend. Admission is free to all Cowboy Joe Club members. The Library Restaurant will be serving food for $5.00 a plate. There will be a $10 charge for non-members, which includes admission and food. All water and soda is free of charge. No alcoholic beverages will be served.
