Junior Marquelle Dent was selected to the 2015 WBCA Division I Coaches' Honorable Mention All-America Team. It's the first such honor of her career along with being one of six Cowgirls in school history to earn the award. Last month, she was among five individuals to be selected as a regional finalist to the WBCA All-Region 7 Team.
The Women's Basketball Coaches' Association announced the awards Saturday at Amalie Arena in Tampa during the NCAA® Women's Final Four® Super Saturday festivities. The 10-member WBCA Division I Coaches' All-America Team was chosen from a group of 52 finalists by the selection committee at an in-person meeting held during the 2015 WBCA National Convention.
Dent, from Denver, Colo., led the Cowgirls in scoring, assists, steals and minutes played this season. She shot 182-of-418 (.435) from the field and 131-of-166 (.789) from the charity stripe. In league games, she averaged a team-high 16.8 points, 6.4 assists and 2.4 steals in 36 minutes per game while shooting 109-of-255 (.427) from the field and 63-of-84 (.750) from the free throw line. Dent ranked among the Top Five in six categories both overall and in MW play.
She was recently selected to the All-Mountain West and All-Defensive Teams for the first time in her career. Dent finished in double- figures in 29 games including every game in MW play. She had two double-doubles while leading the team in assists 26 times, steals 18 times and scoring 14 times. The point guard also moved into sixth place all-time in career assists with 353.
The First Team included Brittany Boyd (California), Nina Davis (Baylor), Moriah Jefferson (Connecticut), Samantha Logic (Iowa), Jewell Loyd (Notre Dame), Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis (Connecticut), Tiffany Mitchell (South Carolina), Breanna Stewart (Connecticut), Elizabeth Williams (Duke) and Amanda Zahui B. (Minnesota).
