LARAMIE, Wyo. -
University of Wyoming head women’s basketball coach Joe Legerski announced the hiring of Bojan Jankovic (Boyan Yankovick) as an assistant coach with the Cowgirl program. His duties officially began on April 30, 2015.
“We are very fortunate to add a talented coach the caliber of Bojan Jankovic,” Legerski said. “He brings a wealth of experience on the court and will provide a boost in our recruiting efforts.”
Jankovic comes to Wyoming after a five-year stint at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Okla. He joined the ORU staff in 2010, and helped guide the Golden Eagles to the Southland Conference Championship in 2013. At ORU, Jankovic was responsible for international recruiting and scheduling, working with the post player’s and game day preparation. He coached Sarah Shelton to All-Southland Conference honors in 2013 while this past season coached Vicky McIntyre to leading the nation in rebounds and blocks per game. She was recently drafted 20th by the Seattle Storm, the first player in Oral Roberts history. Also in his time at ORU, the Golden Eagles won 88 games and made four postseason appearances, including a 2013 trip to the NCAA Tournament and a pair of WNIT bids.
“I am very excited about this great opportunity to work with Coach Legerski, his staff and to be part of University of Wyoming family,” Jankovic said. “It is an amazing basketball program and also a great place for my family and me. I will work hard to help the team in every way possible and I believe we will have great success in the years to come.”
He also has experience coaching at the highest levels of international basketball. During the summer of 2013, Jankovic served as an assistant coach for Serbian national team, helping the squad finish fourth at the European Championship. The fourth-place finish was the highest in the nation’s history. In 2014, the Serbian national team reached its best ever finish at the FIBA World Championships in Turkey finishing eighth.
Prior to that, Jankovic spent four seasons at Centenary College in Shreveport, La., serving as assistant coach for three years before taking over the head coaching duties for the 2009-10 season. He also assisted at the University of the Ozarks for one year, where he helped the men’s basketball team achieve the most conference wins in team history.
He spent five years with Radnicki, a Division I Professional team in Serbia, where he served as the head coach for the U18 team. In 2004, he helped lead Radnicki’s U18 team to a win in one of the largest tournaments on the European circuit in Goteborg, Sweden.
Jankovic started his playing career with Radnicki, and he also played at Belgrade Basketball Club before coming to the United States. Collegiately, he played at Mount Senario College in Ladysmith, Wis., leading the team to the National Small College National Championship in 1996. He received his degree from the University of the Ozarks in 2006.
Jankovic and his wife Bojana have a daughter Anja (15) and son Vuk (5).
In a reorganization of the women’s basketball staff, assistant coach Mike Petrino will now become the Director of Recruiting and assistant coach Katie Kern is stepping down to pursue other opportunities. With the departure of Kern, the Cowgirls will be adding another assistant coach.
