LARAMIE, Wyo. -
Head coach Joe Legerski and the Wyoming Cowgirl basketball program announced the completion of the 2015-16 schedule with the addition of the Mountain West contests on Wednesday. The Cowgirls’ home schedule will feature nine MW games along with the six other nonconference contests.
Wyoming will open up the regular season with three out of four home games before hitting the road for three straight. UW will tip things off against the Chadron State Eagles, on Tuesday, Nov. 17, followed up by a match-up with the Saint Mary’s Gaels, on Friday, Nov. 20, and UC Santa Barbara, on Friday, Nov. 27. On the road for a three-game road stretch, UW is scheduled to face NCAA-participant Gonzaga Bulldogs and Idaho Vandals before closing it out against the Denver Pioneers, on Wednesday, Dec. 9.
“Once again, the Wyoming women’s basketball schedule will be a challenge,” Legerski said. “Marquelle (Dent) and Jordan (Kelley) are the only two players with significant playing experience and after that we will need several youngsters to step up. The success of the season will be determined by the contributions of the underclassmen.”
UW will return home to the friendly confines of the Arena-Auditorium as it hosts the Montana Lady Griz, on Saturday, Dec. 12, and Montana State Bobcats, on Saturday, Dec. 19. The Cowgirls will conclude their non-conference slate against the Colorado Buffaloes, on Monday, Dec. 21.
Wyoming begins league play at home against the San Diego State Aztecs, on Wed., Dec. 30, and the Nevada Wolf Pack, on Saturday, Jan. 2. Their first road conference game will be on Wednesday, Jan. 6, against the Air Force Falcons. During the month, they will also welcome the San Jose State Spartans, on Wednesday, Jan. 13; WBI participant New Mexico Lobos, on Saturday, Jan. 16; and WNIT participant Fresno State, on Wednesday, Jan. 27. The Cowgirls will host the Air Force Falcons Wednesday, Feb. 3. Boise State will visit the Double A on Saturday, Feb. 13, while rival Colorado State makes the trip to Laramie, on Saturday, Feb. 20. They will close out their home schedule on Saturday, February 27, against UNLV.
In all, the Cowgirls will play 18 Mountain West games, scheduled mainly on Wednesdays and Saturdays. They will play eight opponents twice in a home-and-home series and two opponents just one time. This season, Wyoming will face New Mexico and Utah State once during the season.
The Mountain West tournament will be held in Las Vegas, Nev., at the Thomas & Mack Center. The first round of the tournament is set for Monday, March 7; the quarterfinals, on Tuesday, March 8; the semifinals, on Wednesday, March 9; and the championship game, on Friday, March. 11.
