LARAMIE, Wyo. -
Head coach Joe Legerski and the University of Wyoming Cowgirl basketball team have completed up their preseason workouts and are set to begin regular season practices for the 2013-14 season on Monday, September 30, in the Arena Auditorium.
"Official practice begins Monday, but our players have been in the gym since the start of school with individual workouts," said head coach Joe Legerski. "Our perimeter game will definitely be the strength of the 2013-14 Cowgirl team with the return of all-conference players Kayla Woodward and Kaitlyn Mileto. With any new season, it's time for players to emerge and be counted on to contribute to our success."
The Cowgirls' first practice is slated for Monday from 1:30-4:00 p.m. They will continue on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday for the remainder of the week. During the season, the Cowgirls will be available to the media on selected days of the week following practice depending on the schedule. For regular practice days and times during the year, please contact Amy Dambro.
Legerski returns two starters and nine letterwinners from last season's squad that went 24-8 overall and 12-4 in the Mountain West. In all, the squad consists of three seniors, three juniors, five sophomores and two true freshmen.
He also welcomes back two All-Conference selections from a year ago in juniors Kayla Woodward and Kaitlyn Mileto. A Second Team All-Conference selection, Woodward averaged 14.1 points and 6.3 rebounds a season ago. She ranked among the Top 10 in seven categories in the league last season. Mileto was named Third Team All-Conference for the first time in her career while chipping in 11.8 points and 2.6 rebounds.
The Cowgirls will open up the exhibition season, on Friday, Nov. 1, against Chadron State in Laramie. The regular season begins on Friday, Nov. 8, as Wyoming will host Montana State-Northern in Sheridan, Wyo. Both games will tip-off at 7:00 p.m.
