Cowgirl Basketball Set To Begin Pre-Season Practice

LARAMIE, Wyo. -

Ninth year head coach Joe Legerski and the University of Wyoming Cowgirl basketball team have completed their pre-season workouts and will begin regular practices for the 2011-12 season on Monday, October 3, in the Arena Auditorium.

"The Wyoming basketball program will take on a different look this season with the graduation of four starters," said head coach Joe Legerski. "Chaundra Sewell is the lone returning starter and will need to provide the leadership to our young team. With seven of the ten players being sophomores or freshmen, the development of the young players, who will play a major role this season, begins today."

Legerski returns one starter and five letterwinners from last season's squad that went 24-9 overall, 12-4 in the MWC and made an appearance in the WNIT. He welcomes back Honorable Mention All-Conference selection Chaundra Sewell. she averaged 9.5 points and 5.3 rebounds per game last year.

The Cowgirls' first practice is slated for Monday from 2:30-4:00 p.m. They will continue on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday for the remainder of the week beginning at the same time. For regular practice days and times during the season, please contact Amy Dambro.

Wyoming will play two exhibition games to kick things off. The first coming on Friday, Oct. 28 against CSU-Pueblo, and the following week against Western State, on Friday, Nov. 4. The Cowgirls will open the regular season at home before playing the next three of four on the road. They will tip things off against the Utah State Aggies on Friday, Nov. 11 followed by a trip against the Denver Pioneers, on Monday, Nov. 14. A home game with Chadron State is set for Thursday, Nov. 17 before a Thanksgiving trip to the Loyola Marymount Tournament, Nov. 25-26, in Los Angeles. They are scheduled to play two games over the weekend.

The Cowgirls will begin MWC play at home on Wednesday, Jan. 11, against the UNLV Lady Rebels. Their first road conference game will be on Saturday, January 14, against the New Mexico Lobos. In all, the Cowgirls will be featured six times on The Mtn. Sports Network or the CBS College Sports Network.

Wyoming will hold their annual media day Wednesday, Oct. 19 in the Arena Auditorium beginning at 1:00 p.m. Cowgirl players and coaches will be available.

During the season, the Cowgirls will be available to the media on selected days of the week following practice depending on the schedule.
