Head coach Joe Legerski and the University of Wyoming Cowgirl basketball team completed their preseason workouts and are set to begin regular-season practices for the 2014-15 season Wednesday.
The Cowgirls' first practice is slated for Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. They will continue on Thursday, Friday and Saturday for the remainder of the week. During the season, the Cowgirls will be available to the media on select days of the week following practice depending on the schedule. For regular practice days and times during the year, please contact Amy Dambro.
"The first day of practice brings excitement to the newly renovated AA," head coach Joe Legerski said. "Our back-court, will be the strength of the team and determining who will fill the void of our departed seniors will be the first order of business. We also anticipate a huge learning curve for this team, due to the number of new players on the roster."
Legerski returns four starters and seven letterwinners from last season's squad that went 20-11 overall and 10-8 in the Mountain West. In all, the squad consists of three seniors, three juniors, two sophomores and five true freshmen.
Of those returning players, senior Kayla Woodward will be the top honors candidate for Wyoming. Woodward was a First Team All-MW selection for the first time in her career in 2014 while averaging a team-high 16.7 points along with 7.1 rebounds and 1.7 assists. She was also named to the WBCA Honorable Mention All-America Team and the WBCA All-Region VII Team.
Wyoming will open up the regular season with three-straight home games in the newly renovated Arena-Auditorium. UW will tip things off against Western State on Monday, Nov. 17, followed by match-ups against the Denver Pioneers on Friday, Nov. 21 and NCAA participant Idaho Vandals on Tuesday, Nov. 25.
