LARAMIE, Wyo. -
Eighth year head coach Joe Legerski and the University of Wyoming Cowgirl basketball team have completed their pre-season workouts and started regular practices for the 2010-11 season on Friday, October 8, in the Arena Auditorium.
"The start of a new season is exciting for all, coaches, players and fans alike," said head coach Joe Legerski. "The 2010-11 roster is definitely a mix of veteran players and young players looking to make their mark in Wyoming basketball. The roster is a little thin with the injury to Kristen Scheffler, as well as the unexpected departure of Emma Langford (playing professionally) and Leah Fitzgerald (player choice)."
Legerski returns four starters and nine letterwinners from last season's squad to a team that went 20-12 overall, 9-7 in the MWC and made an appearance in the WNIT. He also welcomes back both leading scorer and rebounder in Second Team All-MWC selections Hillary Carlson and Aubrey Vandiver, plus seniors Jade Kennedy and Randi Richardson.
The Cowgirls' first practice was slated for Friday from 1:30-3:30 p.m. They will continue on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday for following week beginning at the same time.
Wyoming will play one exhibition game on Nov. 2 against Colorado Christian before opening the regular season against the Denver Pioneers on Friday, Nov. 12, in Laramie. They follow that up by hosting Dickinson State, on Monday, Nov. 15, before heading out of the road against the Crieghton Blue Jays, on Saturday, Nov. 20. Wyoming will begin MWC play at home on Wednesday, Jan. 5, against the Colorado State Rams. Their first road conference game will be on Saturday, January 8, against the New Mexico Lobos, which will be featured on CBS College Sports. In all, the Cowgirls will be featured five times on The Mtn. Sports Network or CBS College Sports.
Wyoming will hold their annual media day Wednesday, Oct. 20 in the Arena Auditorium beginning at 1:00 p.m.
