LARAMIE, Wyo. -
Fifth year head coach Joe Legerski and the University of Wyoming Cowgirl basketball team will hold their first practice of the 2007-08 season on Saturday, October 13 at 8 a.m., in the Arena Auditorium. Practice is open to the public.
Legerski returns all five starters and ten letterwinners from last season's WNIT Championship squad, including two-time First Team All-MWC selection Hanna Zavecz, as well as Second Team All-MWC and MWC Newcomer of the Year Justyna Podziemska.
The Cowgirls' first practice will begin on Saturday morning from 8-10 a.m. with another on Sunday going from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. They will continue on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday of the following week with practice from 1:30-3:45 p.m.
"The 2007-08 season will be the most difficult in my tenure at Wyoming and a great challenge for this team," said Legerski. "We are relying on our upperclassmen to set the tone from day one and build upon the tremendous success of last season."
The Cowgirls will play two exhibition games on Nov. 2 and 7 before opening the regular season against the Idaho State Bengals on Nov. 9. Then UW will have a rematch with their opponent from the semi-finals in the WNIT a year ago in Kansas State, on Nov. 15. That game can be seen on The Mtn. Television Network. On their first road trip of the non-conference schedule, they will face Saint Louis University (Nov. 18) and then a game against the Wisconsin Badgers (Nov. 20), a rematch of the WNIT Championship game, in Madison, Wisc. Wyoming will begin MWC play on the road, Wednesday, Jan. 9 against the New Mexico Lobos in a televised game on CSTV. Their first home conference game will be played Jan. 12 against TCU. That game will also be featured on The Mtn. Sports Network.
