Second year head coach Joe Legerski and the University of Wyoming Cowgirl basketball team will open up with their first practice of the 2004-05 season Saturday, October 16 at 2:00 p.m., in the Arena Auditorium.
Legerski welcomes back three starters and ten letterwinners from last year's squad that finished 11-18 overall, 6-8 in the Mountain West Conference, which included the first ever Mountain West Conference Tournament victory in school history. Two Cowgirls garnered All-Conference awards as Legerski earned MWC Coach of the Year honors in his first year with the program.
The Cowgirls' first practice will begin on Saturday afternoon from 2:00-5:00 p.m., with another on Sunday, also from 2:00-5:00 p.m. Practices will continue on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday of the following week with a session each day from 1:30-4:00 p.m. For regular practice times during the season, please contact Amy Dambro with UW Athletics Media/Public Relations, 307-766-2269.
"The players as well as the coaching staff are excited about the official start of the season," said head coach Joe Legerski. "We had a great preseason with conditioning as well as individual workouts. Now it's time to carry that over into a team practice situation."
The Cowgirls' will open up the 2004-05 regular season with one of two exhibition games against Adams State, on Thursday Nov. 4, at 7:00 p.m., in the Double A. They will open the regular season on the road in Manhattan, Kansas, Friday, Nov. 29 at 5:00 p.m. MT, as they face Big 12 Champion Kansas State. BYU and Utah will be the first Mountain West Conference opposition for the Cowgirls, on Thursday, Jan. 13 and Saturday, Jan. 15, in Provo and Salt Lake City.
