Inside Wyoming Women's Basketball with Marta Gomez

Oct. 18, 2015

Q: What are you looking forward to the most about playing for the University of Wyoming?
A: I want to improve as a player, help the team and give my best. This is a real dream for me. I’m confident that it will be a great season for the team, and above all I hope that my family will feel proud of me.

Q: Who has motivated you the most throughout your basketball career?
A: I started playing basketball because my brothers did. My parents always supported us to do some sport, especially my father. My family has supported me during my career, but my brother Daniel and my father are the people who give me the strength to keep surpassing me day-by-day. This is not only my dream, but it is also theirs.

Q:What is your favorite part about being from Spain and what do you miss the most?
A: I’m from Valles, a little town where everyone knows everyone and I love it. It is also a very nice place. The food is awesome, I miss it so much. I miss my family, of course, my friends and the group scout Helvaqui, which I belong.

Q: Did you enjoy other sports besides basketball? Who were your favorite sports teams both in Spain and in the United States?
A: I only played basketball. I liked to play soccer at the school and with my friends, but the priority always was basketball. My favorite Spanish team is Real Madrid, I really love it and Perfumerias Avenida in the women's game. I don’t really have favorite teams in USA, but I like the Golden State Warriors because I love Stephen Curry.

Q: Who are your all-time favorite Spanish basketball players and why?
A: I like Rudy Fernandez, Jose Manuel Calderon, Sergio Llull and Felipe Reyes, in the men’s game. But actually my favorite players are Marta Xargay who is playing at the WNBA. She plays always for the team and is a great player. And of course Laura Nicholls, she’s from the same region as me, and she’s a great player, strong, a fighter, with talent and sacrifice.
