Ninth year head coach Joe Legerski and Wyoming basketball team will open up the 2011-12 season this week with their first of two exhibition games. They will host the CSU Pueblo Thunderwolves, on Friday, Oct. 28. The game is set to begin at 7:00 p.m. in the Arena Auditorium. Prices for the game are $12.00 for adults and $6.00 for children (ages three through 18). Students with their i.d. can get in the game for free. The Cowgirls return one starter and five letterwinners to a team that finished with a 24-9 overall, 12-4 in the Mountain West Conference and a bid into the WNIT Tournament. Of those returning players, they are led by juniors Chaundra Sewell and Ashley Sickles. An Honorable Mention All-MW selection a year ago, Sewell averaged 9.5 points and 5.3 rebounds on the team. In league games, she averaged 10.8 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.9 assists. Sickles played in all 33 games during the season off the bench. She averaged 3.8 points and 1.9 rebounds in 10.9 minutes per game. Other key contributors back for the Cowgirls are junior Brenna Freeze and sophomores Kaylee Hoffman and Chelan Landry They also welcome six newcomers with Mina Geric, Alison Gorrell, Kaitlyn Mileto, Jordan Sibrel, Fatima Thiam and Kayla Woodward.
The Thunderwolves return three starters and 11 letterwinners that went 16-11 overall and 13-9 in the RMAC a year ago. The Cowgirls and the Thunderwolves have never met but during the exhibition season. They are coached by Kip Drown who is in his seventh season with the program.
Wyoming will play their final exhibition game on Friday, Nov. 4, against the Western State Mountaineers. The game is set for 7:00 p.m.
