Eighth year head coach Joe Legerski and Wyoming basketball team will open up the 2010-11 season this week with their first exhibition game. They will host the Colorado Christian Cougars, on Tuesday night, Nov. 2. The game is set to begin at 7:00 p.m. in the Arena Auditorium. Prices for the game are $12.00 for adults and $6.00 for children (ages three through 18). Students with their i.d. can get in the game for free. The Cowgirls return four starters and nine letterwinners to a team that finished with a 21-12 overall, 9-7 in the Mountain West Conference and a bid into the WNIT Tournament. Of those returning players, they are led by seniors Hillary Carlson and Aubrey Vandiver. Carlson was a Second Team All-MWC selection for the second straight year while averaging a team leading 15.6 points and three blocks per game. Vandiver averaged 9.8 rebounds while adding 14.5 points, while earning Second Team All-MWC honors a year ago. Other key contributors back for the Cowgirls are the two other starters in Jade Kennedy and Randi Richardson, junior Kristen Scheffler and sophomores Bec Campigli, Brenna Freeze, Chaundra Sewell and Ashley Sickles. They also welcome two newcomers with Chelan Landry and Kaylee Hoffman.
The Colorado Christian Cougars return two starters and seven letterwinners to a team that went 18-10 overall and 15-4 in the RMAC a year ago. The Cowgirls and the Cougars have never met during the regular season, but have previously in the exhibition season. They are coached by Tim Hays who is in his third season with the program.
Wyoming will open up regular season play on Friday, Nov. 12 against the Denver Pioneers in Laramie. The game is set for 7:00 p.m.
