Nov. 9, 2011

University of Wyoming Cowgirl head basketball coach Joe Legerski today announced the signing of three student-athletes to attend the University of Wyoming beginning in the fall of 2012.

"We are excited to welcome Marquelle Dent, Whitney Gordon and Fallon Lewis to the Wyoming basketball program," said Legerski. "All three players are talented, leaders of their respective teams and amazing individuals playing a team game. The 2012 recruiting class is highly successful both on and off the court."

Here are the signees:

Marquelle Dent, 5-7, Guard, Denver, Colo. (Regis Jesuit High School) : A Second Team All-State selection while attending Regis Jesuit High School. She was named First Team All-League and the Aurora Sentinel Player of the Year in 2010-11. Dent is ranked as a three-star recruit and a top 40 guard ranked nationally by ESPN.com. She averaged 10.9 points, 4.0 assists and 3.7 steals last year. Last season, she helped her team to a 19-8 record overall and a trip to the Colorado Class 5A title game. In 2010-11, the team reached the Great 8 in the tournament. Dent is currently coached by Carl Mattei. The daughter of Sean and Terry Dent, she has an older brother, Terrance. Her dad was a member of the Wyoming Cowboy basketball team from 1984-88.

"Marquelle has a tremendous understanding of the game of basketball and can change the game on the offensive end. Her court vision, passing skills and shooting ability are second to none. Marquelle has the unique ability to make the players around her better and has put the time in to become an excellent player."

Whitney Gordon, 6-2, Forward, Marion, Kan. (Marion High School) : A two-time Honorable Mention All-State selection while attending Marion High School. She was named All-Area by the Hutchinson News and was a First Team All-League honoree during her career. Gordon averaged 14 points and 11 rebounds as a junior, while helping her team to a 20-5 record overall. She is currently coached by Randy Savage. Besides lettering in basketball, she also participates in volleyball and track and field. Last season, she was named First Team All-League in volleyball recording 268 kills and 119 digs. An excellent student, she is a member of the National Honor Society and is involved in several other scholastic activities. The daughter of Tod and Alice Gordon, she has a sister Toni and a brother Luke.

"The Wyoming offense excels when we have an inside player with the ability to step outside and shoot the three, and we feel Whitney is that player. She has great size and the ability to stretch the defense with her shooting ability. She definitely fills a need for our program and has an opportunity to make an impact sooner rather than later."

Fallon Lewis, 6-0, Guard, Dayton, Wyo. (Sheridan College/Tongue River HS) : A Region IX All-Conference selection while attending Sheridan College. She helped her team to an 18-13 record, winning the NJCAA North Sub-Region IX Title and a spot in the quarterfinals of the Regional IX bracket. Lewis averaged 15.7 points in 30 games last season. She was coached by Frank McCarthy. In high school, she was a four-time All-Conference selection at Tongue River High School. She was All-State three times, plus was the Northeast Conference Player of the Year as a junior and senior and the Sheridan Country Player of the Year her senior season. She helped her team to 2A State Championship in 2010, the State Consolation Championship Team in 2009 and the 2A State Runner-Up spot in 2008. Lewis was also selected to several all-star teams during her high school career. She was coached by Dianne Moser. Besides basketball, she lettered in cross country, golf, track and volleyball. In volleyball, she was All-Conference and All-State as a senior. An excellent student, she was a member of the National Honor Society. Lewis is the only daughter of Doug and Rissa Lewis.

"Fallon Lewis, who comes from Sheridan Junior College, brings a wealth of playing experience to the Cowgirl basketball program. Her size, as a guard, will give Fallon an opportunity to contribute immediately. She has the ability to score inside and out, rebounds well and is a tremendous athlete.
