Wyoming to Face Kansas State in Rematch of 2007 WNIT Semifinal Game

The Wyoming Cowgirl Basketball team will continue non-conference play this week, on Thursday, November 15, as they host the Kansas State Wildcats. The game, which is set for 7:00 p.m. in the Arena Auditorium, will also be broadcast on The Mtn. Sports Network.

Wyoming opened up the regular season with a 76-50 victory over the Idaho State Bengals last Friday night. Justyna Podziemksa led the way with a game high 19 points, along with chipping in seven rebounds, five assists and four steals. Aubrey Vandiver added 15 points and a team high eight rebounds off the bench, while forward Hanna Zavecz finished with 14 points and five boards. The Cowgirls were 27-57 (.474) from the field and 14-18 (.778) from the free throw line.

The Wildcats are 2-0 this season with wins over Washington, 88-61, and Southern Utah, 87-38. KSU is led by Shalee Lehning who is averaging 16 points and six rebounds per game. She is followed by Kimberly Dietz with 15.5 points and Jackie Stanley with 14 points per game. They return four starters and eight letterwinners to a team that went 19-15 overall and 4-12 in the Big 12 Conference a year ago. This is the seventh meeting between the two teams. Kasnas State leads the series 4-2. The last time the two teams met was March 28, 2007 in the semifinals of the WNIT. Wyoming came away with a thrilling 89-79 triple overtime victory in Laramie. Kansas State is coached by Deb Patterson who is in her 12th season with the program.
