Cowgirl Basketball Signs Two

University of Wyoming Cowgirl head basketball coach Joe Legerski today announced the signing of two student-athletes to attend the University of Wyoming beginning in the fall of 2007.

"We are pleased with the addition of Hillary Carlson and Irena Vankova to the Wyoming basketball program," said Legerski. "They both bring a great deal of size and skill which will help with the continuing growth of our program."

Here are the signees:

Hillary Carlson, 6-3, Forward/Center, Cheyenne, Wyo. (Cheyenne Central HS):
A three-time All-Conference and All-State selection while attending Cheyenne Central High School. As a junior, she helped her team to a first place finish at the regional tournament and the state runner-up spot. During her sophomore year, the team finished second at the regional tournament, but came away with Class 4A State Title. She was coached in high school by Chad Whitworth. A four-year letterwinner in basketball, she also excelled in volleyball. She earned All-Conference and All-State honors three times during her career, while helping her team to a third place finish as a sophomore, a fifth place finish her junior year and a Wyoming State Championship in 2006. They also finished first at the regional tournament this past year as well. An excellent student, she is a member of the National Honor Society and on the honor roll. She selected Wyoming over several schools. Hillary is the daughter of Matt and Lori Carlson.

"Hillary was a highly sought after recruit, who wanted to continue her career at Wyoming" said Legerski. "We expect her to come in right away and make a contribution to the program."

Irena Vankova, 6-3, Forward/Center, Prague, Czech Republic (Catalina Foothills HS):
Attended high school in Tucson, Arizona her senior year as an exchange student. Vankova was a team captain on her basketball team. She was coached by Laura Siemens. Also lettered in volleyball and track. She was a member of the Czech Republic Junior Basketball team that finished sixth at the European Championships. An excellent student, she was selected as a Scholar Athlete. She selected Wyoming over several schools. Irena is the daughter of Jiri and Svetlana Vankova.

"Irena will add depth to our inside game, and will have the opportunity to come in and adjust to the college game."
