The Wyoming Cowgirl Basketball team will be out on the road over the weekend as they begin play at the Woodland Hills Holiday Inn Thanksgiving Basketball Classic in Northridge, Calif. They are scheduled to open up with the Chattanooga Lady Mocs, on Friday, Nov. 26. The game is set for 6:00 p.m. Mountain Time. They will either play the host school Cal State Northridge Matadors or the Wichita State Shockers, on Saturday, Nov. 27. The games are set for 8:30 MT if they win or 6:00 p.m. MT if they lose. Wyoming is currently 2-1 on the season after suffering their first loss against Creighton, 60-49, the on Saturday in Omaha. Hillary Carlson leads the way with 17.0 points and 9.7 rebounds per contest. She is followed by Aubrey Vandiver who is adding 14.0 points and 8.3 rebounds. The Cowgirls are shooting .416 (67-161) from the field and out rebounding opponents 40.7 to 31.7.
The Lady Mocs are currently 1-3 overall after a 71-61 win over Austin Peay on Tuesday night. Chattanooga is led by Whitney Hood who is averaging 19.5 points and five rebounds per game. She is followed by Tenisha Townsend who is adding 12 points and 3.5 assists. They return one starter and four letterwinners to a team that went 24-9 overall, 16-4 in the Southern Conference and made an appearance in the First Round of the NCAA. This is the first meeting ever between the two teams. UTC is coached by Wes Moore who is in his 13th season with the program.
The Matadors are currently 0-4 this season and will play Wichita State on Firday night. CSUN is led by Violet Alama who is averaging 19 points and 8.3 rebounds. She is followed by Amanda Thomson who is adding 9.5 points and 2.5 rebounds. They return four starters and 11 letterwinners to a team that went 4-24 overall and 2-14 in the Big West Conference.
This would be the third meeting between the two schools. Wyoming leads the series 2-0. The last time the two teams met was Dec. 30, 2003 as the Cowgirls defeated the Matadors, 72-53, in Laramie. Cal State Northridge is coached by Jason Flowers who is in his first season with the program.
The Shockers are currently 2-1 overall and will play Cal State Northridge on Friday. Wichita State is led by Jessica Diamond who is averaging 12.7 points and three rebounds. She is followed by Haleigh Lankster who is adding 12 points and 3.3 rebounds. They return three starters and seven letterwinners to a team that went 18-15 overall, 8-10 in the Missouri Valley Conference and made an appearance in the First Round of the WBII Tournament.
This would be the third meeting between the two teams. The series is tied up at 1-1. The last time the two teams met was Jan. 2, 1994 as the Shockers defeated UW, 68-62 in Wichita. WSU is coached by Jody Adams who is in her third season with the program.
