Two More Road Games on Tap for Cowgirl Basketball

LARAMIE, Wyo. -

The Wyoming Cowgirl basketball team will be on the road for two games this week as they travel to the states of Idaho and Montana. UW will play the Idaho State Bengals, on Tuesday, Nov. 28, beginning at 7:05 p.m. in Pocatello, then travel to Missoula for a match-up with the Montana Lady Griz, on Thursday, Nov. 30, at 7 p.m.

Wyoming is currently 5-1 overall after earning a 22-point victory, 77-55, over Charlotte on Friday and an 80-71 win over Nevada on Saturday night. They are led by junior Hanna Zavecz who is averaging 15.2 points along with 3.7 rebounds. Jodi Bolerjack follows with 14.7 points, while Justyna Podziemska is adding 14.0 points and a team leading 7.5 rebounds per game. The Cowgirls are shooting 142-311 (.457) from the field and 51-122 (.418) from beyond the arc.

They will open up the week against the Idaho State Bengals who come in to this game with an 0-4 record. This is their home opener. They are led by Natalie Doma who is averaging 18.8 points and nine rebounds per game along with Andrea Lightfoot who is adding 14 points and 3.8 boards per contest. They return four starters and seven letterwinners to a team that went 17-13 overall and 11-3 in the Big Sky, while earning a bid to the WNIT a year ago. The Cowgirls and the Bengals have met 20 times before. Wyoming leads the series 15-5. The last time the two teams met was December 29, 2005 when the Cowgirls defeated Idaho State, 78-60, in Laramie. They are coached by Jon Newlee who is in his fifth season with the program.

Wyoming will close out the week against the Montana Lady Griz who are currently 3-1 overall. They are led by Sonya Rogers who is averaging a team leading 13.3 points along with 1.8 rebounds, with two other players averaging 11 points each. They return three starters and eight letterwinners to a team that went 21-7 overall and 10-4 in the Big Sky Conference a year ago. The Cowgirls and the Lady Griz have met eight previous times. Montana leads the series 5-2. The last time the two teams met was Dec. 2, 2005 when the Cowgirls defeated Montana 50-45 in Laramie. They are coached by Robin Selvig who is in his 29th season with the program.
