Pickup Earns MVP Honors

Wyoming Cowgirl basketball player Brenda Pickup was named the tournament Most Valuable Player over the weekend at the Mt. McKinley North Star Invitational in Fairbanks, Alaska.

Pickup was named the MVP of the tournament after helpingthe Cowgirls to a 2-0 record over the weekend. She averaged 11.5 points and four rebounds, along with six assists and three steals in both games. In the victory over Rice in the championship game, she chipped in a career high 19 points, while shooting 7-12 (.583) from the field, 2-4 (.500) from beyond the arc and 3-4 (.750) from the charity stripe. She also had a team high five assists and four steals.

Both senior Darci Arsene and sophomore Ashley Elliott also earned All-Tournament Team honors. Arsene notched double-figures in both games over the weekend, while averaging 15 points and 3.5 rebounds per contest. She was 10-15 (.667) from the field and a perfect 9-9 from the charity stripe. Elliott recorded a career high 20 points, which was a tournament single-game record, and hit 6-7(.857) from the three-point line against Alaska-Fairbanks.
