LARAMIE, Wyo. -
The Wyoming Cowgirl Basketball team will open up the week with a game against the Colorado Buffaloes, on Wednesday, December 5, in Boulder. The game time is set for 7:00 p.m. and the action can be heard on this web site or seen on Fox Sports Rocky Mountain.
"Colorado is a young and talented team and led by two quality seniors in Jackie McFarland and Susie Powers," said UW head coach Joe Legerski. "They will present several challenges for us. As a team, we will have to play the entire 40 minutes and shoot the ball better in this game in order to be successful."
Wyoming is currently 6-0 overall after a 65-54 win over the Montana Lady Griz and a 16-point victory against the Denver Pioneers last week. They are also ranked 21st in the Associated Press Poll and 22nd in the USA Today/ESPN Women's Coaches' Poll. Senior Hanna Zavecz leads the way with 16.2 points and 5.2 assists, which ranks second in the league. She is followed by sophomore Aubrey Vandiver with 14 points and a team leading eight rebounds, while Justyna Podziemska is chipping in 13.8 points per game. The Cowgirls are shooting .400 (126-315) from the field and a league leading .750 (96-128) from the free throw line.
The Buffaloes are currently 4-2 overall. They are led by Jackie McFarland who is averaging 18 points and 9.2 rebounds per game. She was followed by Brittany Spears who is adding 13.3 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. They return four starters and eight letterwinners to a team that went 13-17 overall and 6-10 in the Big 12 Conference a year ago. This is the 44th meeting between the two teams. Colorado holds the series record 32-11. The last time the two teams met was November 21, 2006 as the Cowgirls came away with a 68-49 victory. Colorado is coached by Kathy McConnell-Miller who is in her third season with the program.
